It has been some time since a Descent game last appeared. This guide looks at Descent 3, the final game in the series, released in 1999, and running it under Cedega on Mepis Linux.

Part 1  |  Part 2  |  Part 3

To Install and Play this game the original Install media is required

51: Left Click on the tab labaled audio. Typically, it will default to Default Playback Device.

52: If you want, you can specify the WINE Direct Sound though.

53: Personally, I just set it to WINE DirectSound to avoid potential conflicts.

54: Now Left Click on the tab labeled Speed.

This is where we set the overal system performance.

55: Left Click on Detect System Properties.

56: A game this old didn't know what to do... so it was left on Medium.

57: A Left Click to the Drop Down box and we can change to Very High.

58: With Very High graphics, Left Click on the tab labeled Network.

59: Left Click in the dot for LAN/Direct Connection.

60: Personally though, I don't change the connection speed. You can if you want to.

61: Left Click on the tab labeled Misc.

62: Nothing to change here. Left Click on OK.

63: Left Click on OK.

I'll grant this warning was accurate... in 1999.

64: There we go. In game shot.

***********

Launching the Game : because the registration really can't be completed, get used to bypassing the process. I switched over to an ATi based system for this part of the Guide.

65: Here we have our Cedega Screen and our Descent 3 entry.

66: Left Click the Descent 3 icon to select, then Left Click on Play.

67: Left Click on Register Later.

68: Left Click on Forfeit.

69: And now we are into the game itself.

70: Okay, here is our Radeon x1800 being selected in OpenGL.

71: Again, Descent 3 Setup does not know what to do with the system specs.

72: So, again, Very High manually set.

73: And another in-game shot, this time on an ATi card.
