For : Mepis Linux 6.5 Final

By : je.saist

Allright, here we go. Mepis Linux 6.5 was just released earlier today.  This guide is built to show users upgrading from the 3.x series how to locate hidden files that may conflict with the new version of Mepis Linux. Specifically, the .kde folder seems to cause the most problems.

This portion of the Guide walks through installing Mepis 6.5 and retaining /home.

If you use kmail for your mail client this guide will remove mail that you have saved on your drive.

Part 1 : Remove Config Files  |   Part 2 : Install Mepis Linux

20: Left Click on Mepis Install

21: Wait for the license agreement to come up

Left Click in the checkbox for I agree to the terms.

22: Left Click on Next

23: Select your install drive.

In my case, it is sda which is a Serial ATA Drive. If you have only one drive, don't worry about this.

24: Then Left Click on Next

25: Here we can select our partitions. As shown below, the root partition is already selected.

26: So we'll need to specify swap.

27: And also our home partition, which again, for me is going to sda3.

28: Make sure to put a check in Preserve data in /home (if upgrading) with a Left Click.

29: Left Click on Next

30: Mepis will now verify the formatting. Left Click on Yes.

31: Now we'll be warned about the swap file, so Left Click on Yes.

32: Make sure that the /home partition says (no reformat) before Left Clicking on Yes.

33: Get comfy, this part may take a while.

34: The Mepis Install will now ask about the Boot Method.

35: When ready, Left Click on Next.

36: The Install will ask for confirmation on the Bootloader. Left Click on Yes.

37: When Grub is installed, Left Click on OK.

38: The Install will now ask about services to enable.

39: When ready, Left Click on Next.

40: The install will now ask for the network information.

When ready, Left Click on Next.

41: The next step will be Localization Defaults.

When ready, Left Click on Next.

42: Then comes the default username and password information.

When ready, Left Click on Next.

43: As an upgrade, if you use the same user name as the previous install, the Mepis Installer should find the old name and ask if the directory can be reused.

Left Click on Yes.

44: Left Click on Finish.

45: Left Click on Yes to start the reboot.

Have fun with Mepis Linux.
