Obtaining and Burning New Mepis CD

For : Mepis Linux

By : je.saist

This is another fast and cheap guide. Again, just switched to a virtual desktop, dropped the resolution and started capping pictures.  This does pose a bit of a problem though. This guide is meant to show how to obtain a new version of Mepis in order to upgrade... And I'm not running an older vesion of Mepis.

So, users of 2004.x and 3.x series will probably have slightly different screens, and K3B will probably be on the taskbar in some cases.  Ah well, this should be fairly consistant across most versions of Mepis Linux... (I hope).

Part 1 - Obtain  |  Part 2 - Burn

13: Starting at the K-Menu

14: Mouse up to Multimedia

15: Left Click on K3b

As shown below, in 6.5, K3b is labled with CD & DVD Burning (K3b)

16: Wait for K3b to load.

17: Left Click on Tools at the top of K3b

This should be consistant across all versions of Mepis Linux

18: Left Click on Burn CD Image

19: Now we should have our burning screen.

Up at the top of the screen we have a section labeled : Image to Burn

20: Left Click on the Folder Icon in the Image to Burn section.

21: Here we have a near standard file browser.

22: Since FireFox saves to the desktop, I am going to Left Click on Desktop

If you have another download location set, go there now.

23: Left Click on the SimplyMEPIS .iso file.

24: Left Click on OK

25: K3b will now give some information about the .iso file.

26: Left Click on Start

27: Wait for the burning process to finish.

28: When K3b finishes, a trumpet sound will probably play (unless, like me, you turned it off)

The CD-Tray should also Open.

29: Leave the CD in the tray.

Go ahead and close the K3b window.

30: Close the burning screen.

31: Close K3b.

32: Then simply Reboot while leaving the CD in the CD-Tray.

Turn back to Part 1 to Re-Obtain a new version?

Take me back to the Guides.
