Obtaining and Burning New Mepis CD

For : Mepis Linux

By : je.saist

This is another fast and cheap guide. Again, just switched to a virtual desktop, dropped the resolution and started capping pictures.  This does pose a bit of a problem though. This guide is meant to show how to obtain a new version of Mepis in order to upgrade... And I'm not running an older vesion of Mepis.

So, users of 2004.x and 3.x series will probably have slightly different screens, and K3B will probably be on the taskbar in some cases.  Ah well, this should be fairly consistant across most versions of Mepis Linux... (I hope).

Part 1 - Obtain  |  Part 2 - Burn

1: Open up FireFox

Depending on your version of Mepis, you may have a Blue Globe instead.

2: Head to http://www.mepis.org

3: Left Click on Download MEPIS in the left hand column.

4: While I would encourage those who like Mepis to buy a subscription, you don't have to.

Scroll down the page.

5: MEPIS Linux has several different mirros.

Pick one that is close to you for a faster download speed with a Left Click.

If I have to explain why I went with the Tar Heels over Tech, then I don't want to.

6: Most of the Mirrors will have released and testing.

Due to a server change on the part of Warren, all servers have been synched to a start date of 3/10/07

7: Since I am going for the most recent version, I am going to Left Click on Testing

8: Here we have our list of MEPIS products in testing.

9: The releases are listed by version number and bits (32 / 64)

In my case, I went for SimplyMEPIS-CD_6.5.rc2_32.iso, the most recent at time of writing.

10: Save the file to disk by Left Clicking on OK

Now, I cheated here. I didn't wait for the download to complete.
So no, it's not your immagination that I did not show the Download Manager and make a Waiting Joke.

11: When the download completes, go ahead and head for the desktop.

As shown below, I just Left Clicked on Show Desktop

12: As I still have FireFox saving to the desktop, there is our .iso file.

Turn to Part 2 for the Burning!
