Formatting With GParted
For : GParted By : je.saist The third guide in this set shows how to set a specific partition format. The intent is that Windows NT5 and Vista installers have issues with blank partitions. In many cases NT5 and Vista installers will not correctly identify the size of the drive. With 160gig and higher hard-drive sizes being fairly cheap, it can be a little aggravating to only have less than half of the drive recongized by the Microsoft installer. The secondary advantage is to those with portable hard-drives, GParted and QTParted can set higher Fat32 partition sizes than Windows NT5 systems can. 1: Again, starting with GParted open. We already have an empty partition and it's already selected with a Left Click ![]() 2: Left Click on New ![]() 3: We'll now have the Create new Partition window pop up. ![]() 4: Over by Filesystem we can choose a variety of different formats. ![]() 5: For the purpose of this guide, I am going to Left Click on fat32. ![]() 6: With Fat32 selected, Left Click on Add. ![]() 7: Left Click on Apply. ![]() 8: Left Click on Apply (again) ![]() 9: Wait for the operations to complete. ![]() 10: Left Click on Close ![]() 11: As mentioned several times before, it can a long time for GParted to scan the drives. ![]() 12: Our Partition is now set. ![]() Turn back to Part 1 for defult NTFS Partition? Turn back to Part 2 for OEM's version of a default Partition scheme? Take me back to the Guides. |
