Now, I personally am not a fan of resizing a hard-drive with Windows Installed on it in order to install Mepis. I strongly recommend that you do not resize a hard-drive to install any linux. Following this Guide WILL PUT YOUR INFORMATION AT RISK.
Not MAY, it WILL. Alright, warnings out of the way again, we left off having tossed a second drive onto the IDE Chain, one that didn't have bad sectors, and just told it to resize. So, what happened? 23: At first glance it seems like we have a problem again. The bar has gone solid red. This time however, it is not a problem. We also now have a free space with about 10gigs. Left Click on the Free Partition ![]() 24: Right Click on the Free Partition to bring up the context menu. ![]() 25: Left Click on Create ![]() 26: Now, we need to change the Primary partition to Extended Partition as shown below. ![]() 27: Once Extended Partition is selected, the Partition type will be grayed out. ![]() 28: Left Click on OK ![]() 29: We can see here that there is about 6megs of data after the Windows NTFS partition that is listed as Free. This is why we need to set Mepis up on an Extended Partition, that small free section will interfere with the ability to set 3 separate partitions for Mepis. Left Click on the free Hidden partition. *note* if you intend to have /home and /root on the same partition, or you intend to run Mepis without a swap, you don't have to use a logical drive. We'll cover those types of installs at a later date. ![]() 30: Right Click on the free hidden partition, then Left Click on Create ![]() 31: We now see that this partition type is locked as Logical Partition. ![]() 32: I am going to change the Size to 5GB. ![]() 33: Then Left Click on OK ![]() 34: The bar at the top now shows a split section on the end of the drive. Once again, Right Click on the free partition at the bottom, and Left Click on Create. ![]() 35: This time we need to change our Partition type to linux-swap ![]() 36: Now, I'm going to change the size to Megabytes ![]() 37: And set my swap file at just 512MB. ![]() 38: Left Click on Okay ![]() 39: One more time, Right Click on the bottom free partition and Left Click on Create ![]() 40: Nothing to change this time. ![]() 41: Just Left Click on OK ![]() 42: There we go, our partitions are set. ![]() 43: There is a little floppy disk icon at the top of qtparted. Left Click on the Floppy disk icon ![]() 44: qtparted will warn that changes are about to be committed. Left Click on Yes ![]() I missed something about the drives, can I see Part 1 again? I'm ready to go to Part 3 and complete the install! Take me back to the Guides. |
