Apt Cache Clear
For : Mepis Linux By : je.saist While Advanced Packaging Tool, or Apt, makes installing programs in a Debian based Linux a snap, the files are cached on the drive. This guide walks through using the Mepis System Assistant to clear the Apt-Cache. 1: For the purposes of this guide, /var/cache/apt/archives is loaded up in Konqueror. You don't need to go there. As we can see, the folder has about 121 megs of files saved. ![]() 2: Lets Left Click on System ![]() 3: Mouse up to MEPIS and Left Click on MEPIS System Assistant. ![]() 4: Enter your /root password, then Left Click on ok. ![]() 5: We should now be at our Options tab in the MEPIS System. We are looking for Recover Space, the third box down. ![]() 6: Under Recover Space we have an option for Clear packages cache at boot. We also have an option to Clear System Logs at boot. Left Click an X into each option. ![]() 7: Left Click on OK. ![]() 8: Mepis will now tell us that the changes will take place when the system is rebooted. Left Click on OK. ![]() 9: Restart the computer. ![]() 10: I've brought up /var/cache/apt/archives again to show that it is now empty. ![]() Take me back to the Guides. |
