Kompozer Install -Obtain- For: Mepis Linux by: je.saist Daniel Glazman's NVU program is probably the most well known What you see is what you get HTML editor on the Linux platform. Originally aimed to be an Open Source Replacement for Macromedia Dreamweaver, NVU was built on the Gecko code base from Mozilla Suite. Glazman abandoned the old Gecko code base and is busy building a new HTML editor on a xulrunner-base, as mentioned in his blog. However, with the next Generation of Mozilla Composer not released yet, NVU users were left in the cold without update support. Fabien Cazenave stepped in and forked the NVU code into the Kompozer project. However, this really isn't a fork as Kompozer is now the only direct upgrade path for NVU users. Now, because I liked using NVU, I of course upgraded to Kompozer. The bad news is, Kompozer is not in the Apt-Repositories. All We have is a tar ball. Don't Panic! We'll walk you through all the steps. This guide is seperated into 3 sections. I just did this section again and clicking through Kompozer's page to Sourceforge resulted in SourceForge chosing a Download mirror for me and starting the download. If SourceForge does this for you, you'll get a page like this one: ![]() If you get that, proceed to step 8. If you don't, just follow the following picture and step 7. ![]() 7: SourceForge has multiple mirrors around the world, so find one close to you, and then Left Click on download. ![]() 8: It may take a few moments, but eventually FireFox should pop up the Save Window. ![]() 9: We want to Left Click on the option to Save to Disk ![]() 10: By default FireFox is still saving to my desktop. ![]() 11: Now we just wait for the download to complete. We can go ahead and close FireFox at this point. ![]() Alright, time for Part 2 and Extraction I already know how to extract a file, is Part 3 where we run Kompozer? |
