Hidden File View | Deleting Pluginreg.dat
for : Mepis Linux by : je.saist This guide covers accessing the Hidden File view in Konqueror. As an example of why you would want to find a hidden file to begin with, we are going to delete the pluginreg.dat
file for Mozilla Firefox. For those running the Mepis 6.5 beta 6
release, some of the multimedia files available for FireFox will not
run correctly unless the pluginreg.dat file is removed. For more information, visit Mepis.org.
1: Starting off we have our typical view of Konqueror.
![]() 2: Left Click on View in the upper menu bar
![]() 3: Left Click on Show Hidden Files
![]() 4: We should now see several folders with a period in front of them.
This is the default method to create a hidden folder in Linux. This is also where almost all of the configuration files, bookmarks, emails, and everything else is stored in your /home folder. Most of the time the hidden folder will share a similar name as the program it is meant for. There are exceptions though, such as Unreal Tournament 99, which uses a Loki folder. ![]() 5: To delete pluginreg.dat, we need to find the hidden folder .mozilla
Left Click on .mozilla
![]() 6: Next, Left Click on firefox
![]() 7: And now we can see our pluginreg.dat file.
![]() 8: Just a standard deletion, Right Click for the context menu
![]() 9: Left Click on Delete
![]() 10: Left Click on Delete to confirm the deletion.
![]() 11: And we are done.
