Desktop Pager

For : Mepis Linux 6.04 betas - 6.5

By : je.saist

Previous versions of Mepis Linux shipped with two virtual windows enabled, as exempliefied in the original KDE Tricks Guide. If I recall correctly Warren removed one of the desktops starting with the first 6.04 beta. I believe the reason was to provide a simpler desktop to new users coming from Microsoft Products. As is, even with the most recent Microsoft Release, Vista, Virtual Desktops are still not implemented.

This guide then, looks at enabling Multiple Desktops.

For those running Under Beryl, attempting to run Virtual Desktops in addition to the Beryl Interface will cause system instability. Chances are, your screen will lock up.

Beryl and Desktop pager was Tested On:

Geforce 6600 GT |  Geforce 6800 Mobile  |  Intel 915GM

(shouldn't have to go far now)

11: I am going to set my number in the top right hand corner to 2

12: Left Click on OK

13: Now we have our Two Windows on the taskbar

The Add Applet - KDE Panel can be closed now.

The KDE Interface has changed a bit since Mepis 3.x / 2004.x, as demonstrated in the next 4 steps
