Using Amarok Media Player - Part 3

For: Mepis Linux

by: je.saist

So now we've been over Amarok initial usage, the context tab, the collection tab, looked at the files tab, and have looked at the advanced configuration options for a Generic Audio Player. Lets now actually see what's on our Audio Player and find the visuals.

40: Left Click on Ok to close the Configure - Amarok window.

iPod-View 1: Now, depending on how Amarok as last used, you may have the Media Device default with an Ipod connection, so we'll need to change it.

iPod-View 2: In the uper left hand corner of Amarok we'll see iPod (mounted at /media/ipod).

Left click
on the down arrow.

iPod-View 3: We'll now have both our iPod and Generic Audio Player in a drop down box.

iPod-View 4: Left Click on Generic Audio Player

41: Now we should have a screen like the one below.

The upper left corner now shows Generic Audio Player at /dev/sbd1

42: Above the listing we'll see a button labled Connect.  Left Click on Connect.

43: Now Amarok shows a file fiew of my Iriver.

44: I'm going to Left Click on the + sign next to mp3

45: And now all of my stored music is shown. Wonder who many people are going to go searching for Charlie Peacock.

As I mentioned back in Step 21-B, media device handling is identical to the File View mode. It's time to pull some music.

I'm going to Left Click on the + sign next to castlevania

46: The castlevania folder now shows all of the tracks from OCRemix that are currently stored. I'm looking for a particular track, so I'm going to scroll down the list.

47: There it is, Wicked Orchestra. I am going to Left Click and Hold on the file I want to play.

I am then going to drag the file over into the right hand column as I did before with Evanescence.

48: And there we go, a file is in the playlist.

49: Hit Play and once again we have Amaroks On screen display telling us a bit about the song.

50: Alright, lets work on getting some visuals now. Left Click on Tools at the top of Amarok.

51: Left Click on Visualizations

52: Amarok's list of visuals is slightly hampered by the size of the window. I am going to resize the window.

53: There we go. Now we can actually see the entries.

54: Just Left Click in the Check Box of the visual you want to have.

55: Then Enjoy.

Alright, that is it for basic Amarok usage. We'll go into burning, playlist configurations, transcoding files, and other parts of Amarok in later guides, but this should be enough to get you started on enjoying your music.

Can I see Part 1 again for the Context View?

I need to review adding a generic player again, that was Part 2 right?

Take me back to the guides please.
