Nvidia Glx Installation

For : Mepis Linux 6.5

By : je.saist

Many Nvidia cards supported by Nvidia-Glx may not load properly with the Opt-In Nvidia-Glx driver, often giving either an entirely black screen, or a black screen with a cursor in the upper left hand corner. This is due to the refresh rate or monitor not being correctly recognized by the automatic configuration. In these cases the Nvidia-Glx driver will need to be installed manually, but with a twist. If you already know that your card will black screen, you can go ahead and run dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg after installing the driver.

Nvidia GLX 6.5  |  Dpkg Part 1  |  Dpkg Part 2  |  Nvidia Beryl Fix

A short note about the NV X.org driver before we begin. It essentially a placeholder driver equivelent to VESA. More information is available here :: http://wiki.x.org/wiki/nv. Like the VESA driver, the NV driver only offers barebones non-accelerated 2D display. While there is a project underway to reverse engineer drivers for Nvidia cards, Nouveau, no cards are currently supported. For the purposes of support underneath Mepis 6.5, the NV driver and VESA driver are considered to be the same.
