Dpkg-Reconfigure
For: X.org / Mepis Linux by: je.saist This is a companion guide to the Nvidia-Glx-DVD, Nvidia-GLX-Legacy-DVD, Nvidia-GLX-6-0-4, and Nvidia-Glx Legacy-6.0.4. These are the Proprietary drivers for Linux with Nvidia-Glx supporting Geforce FX to Geforce 8, and Nvidia-Glx-Legacy supporting Geforce 4 down to Riva TNT. Installing the Nvidia drivers though could leave Mepis with a blank black screen. This guide will walk you through picking the resolution and refresh rates that will return your display to you. Part 1 | Part 2
26: Starting off Part 2 with another Enter on the Keyboard. ![]() 27: Step #27 is also an Enter on the Keyboard ![]() 28: for #28, repeat #27. Hit Enter on the Keyboard. ![]() 29: Nope, still nothing more than Enter on the Keyboard. ![]() 30: Finally, something to choose... I guess. I honestly have no idea what the difference is between the two. ImPS/2 seems to work fine, so... yes. Enter on the keyboard. ![]() 31: Finally, a choice. Should a 3 button mouse be emulated? I just prefer to go with Yes, but the choice is yours. Once you've decided, Hit Enter on the Keyboard ![]() 32: Go ahead and Hit Enter one more time. ![]() 33: You can make your selection for each item by pressing the spacebar on the keyboard. I typically get everything but v41. Hit Enter on the keyboard to continue. ![]() 34: Hit Enter on the Keyboard ![]() 36: Xserver-xorg will now try to identify the monitor. My setup is going to screw with the settings since I have both a monitor and a tv hooked up to the graphics card. Hit Enter over Yes. ![]() 37: Yep, Xserver-Xorg was not able to determine either connected device. DO NOT WORRY, THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM. Hit Enter on the keyboard to continue. ![]() 38: We now have a list of the available resolutions for the Xserver to work in. You can choose Resolutions with the Spacebar on the Keyboard. ![]() 39: I am going to go down the list and make sure 1280*1024 is selected. ![]() 40: And also check on 1024*768, 800*600, and 640*480. ![]() 41: Hit Enter on the Keyboard to continue. ![]() 42: Xserver-xorg defaults to Advanced. Hit the Up Arrow on the keyboard to choose Medium. ![]() 43: Once Medium is selected, Hit Enter on the keyboard. ![]() 44: Xserver-xorg will now let you select your starting resolution, and refresh rate. This is why the inability to detect the monitor early is not a problem. As long as you know the refresh rate for your monitor, you should be fine. ![]() 45: If you do not know the Refresh Rate, undershoot. For Example, there are 3 entires for 800*600. One with a refresh of 60hz, one at 72hz, and one at 85hz. If you don't know what your monitor will support, choose a lower hz. ![]() 46: If you have a higher end monitor though, feel free to turn the refresh rate up. That will improve image response. When ready and you have your resolution, Hit Enter on the keyboard. ![]() 47: Hit Enter one more time. ![]() 47: Now we can choose the Color Depth. If you have a Geforce card on up, 24bits is a good color depth. If you have a Riva TNT, go with 16bit color. When ready, Hit Enter to Continue. ![]() 48: and we are done as we drop back to the command prompt. ![]() 49: Type in the command : reboot ![]() 50: Hit Enter one more time ![]() And just wait for the reboot.
