Adding a New User
For: Mepis 6.5 - Mepis 6.04 betas by: je.saist Adding New User | Deleting an Old User | Changing Password | Removing Password | Setting Auto-Login The Mepis User Assistant allows users to repair file permissions, add new users, delete users, as well as synch the On-The-Go accounts. This guide covers adding a new user. 1: Starting at System with a Left Click ![]() 2: Move the mouse up to MEPIS ![]() 3: Then Left Click on MEPIS User Assistant ![]() 4: Enter the /root password, and Left Click on OK ![]() 5: Our first view the MEPIS User Assistant ![]() 6: Click on the tab labeled Add. This is where we can enter our new users desired name as well as their password. ![]() 7: Go ahead and type in the (username) you want to use. ![]() 8: Then type in the desired password (twice). ![]() 9: Left Click on Apply ![]() 10: Mepis should give a message that the user was added successfully. ![]() 11: Left Click on OK ![]() 12: If you want, go ahead and End your Current Session Make sure you can login with the new (username) and password ![]() Since I leave the screen captured desktops as close to default as I can, aside from the changes documented in KDE Tricks to make the screen easier to use at 800*600, there is not really anything to indicate that the User has changed. So, I've brought up Konqueror in the background set to the /home/newuser folder, and set the End Session dialog which shows the currently logged in session. As can be seen, newuser was added without issue. ![]() Take me back to the Guides. |
