By : je.saist Network Assistant | System Assistant | User Assistant | X-Window Assistant Welcome
to the Mepis Assistant Series of Guides. These 4 Guides go through the
Tools Unique to Mepis Linux, which offer simplified steps to completing
certain tasks in a Linux Enviroment.
This guide is built with a Two-Fold Purpose. The first purpose is how to restart the network. The second is to show each of the windows in the Network Assistant so that you'll have an idea where to enter the information. 1: Starting at the default desktop ![]() 2: Mouse over System ![]() 3: Left Click on System to bring up the Context Menu. ![]() 4: Mouse up to Mepis ![]() 5: Left Click on MEPIS Network Assistant ![]() 6: Enter the Root password and Left Click on OK ![]() 7: Welcome to the Network Assistant. On this page you can enable or disable the Ndiswrapper, as well as configure DNS. Most of the time, if Mepis just works, you should not have to change anything here. ![]() 8: To restart the network Left Click on Re/Start Network. ![]() 9: Mepis will pop up a Window informing of the restart. Left Click on OK. ![]() 10: Give it a minute. In the lower right hand corner the Network Icon will dissapear. ![]() 11: After a few moments KNemo will announce that Connection Established. ![]() 12: Alright, back in the Network Assistant, Left Click on the tab labled Wireless. This page allows you to set the SSID, channel frequency, and the type of encryption. ![]() 13: The next tab, Interfaces, allows configuration of the network adapters. This is also where devices can be set to turn on at boot. ![]() 14: Left Clicking the down arrow next to Settings For: allows selecting the device in use. Most of the time, 802.11 wireless adapters will be under wlan0 ![]() So there we go. The Network Adapter Wizard. Seems simple enough, right? Take me back to the Guides |
