I guess you could say that this Guide is made under Protest. The reason being is this:

Setting Auto-Login will only make it easier for someone you don't like to access your computer.

However, that being said, many Windows users are familiar with just being able to turn their computers on and have it load all the way to the desktop without any input. This guide will configure Mepis to boot all the way to the desktop without user input.

FOLLOWING THIS GUIDE WILL PUT YOUR COMPUTER AT RISK! Not Maybe. It. WILL!

1: The System icon should be on the taskbar. Left Click on System.

2: Move the mouse up and Left Click on System Configuration (Settings)

3: We should now be at settings:/

4: Left Click on System Administration

5: Left Click on Login Manager

6: Enter the /root password and Left Click on OK

7: Here we can specify some of the display when logging in. If you want to change your greeting, this is the place. Incidentally, if you don't change this entry, you can come here and check on which version of Mepis you last installed.

8: Left Click on the tab labeled Convenience.

9: Left Click on the box next to Enable Auto-Login

10: Enable Auto-Login should now have a check mark.

At the same time, you can also specify to Automatically log in again after X Server Crash

11: Left Click on Apply

12: Left Click on OK

When the computer is turned on now, it should load all the way to the desktop. If errors are encountered with the loading process, you can remove the password requirement from the chosen login.

Take me back to the Guides.
