Installing and Configuring EPSXE
*excellent Playstation emulator*

For : MEPIS Linux

Time to play again, this time with another Emulation program.  ePSXe is widely considered to be the best Playstation emulator, period.  And as it is available for Linux, no reason why Linux users should be without the fun.

This is Part 2 of a three part guide.

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

When Part 1 was completed, the plugins needed to run ePSXe had been downloaded.

34: At this point, open up Personal Files and go to the downloads folder.

35: The first file to work with will be gpupetemesagl175.tar.gz. Click on the file.

36: There are 5 files in here.  We only need to pay attention to three of them.

37: Select the first two files, cfgPeteMesaGL and gpuPeteMesaGL.cfg

Once the files are selected, copy.

38: For now, it is probably a good idea to open up Personal Files from the task bar so that we have two Konqueror boxes to work with.

Open the folder that says epsxe

39: Once inside epxse, open the folder labeled cfg

40: Go ahead and paste. Don't forget to delete the file that says erase.me

41: Using the task bar at the bottom, switch back to the download file folder.  This time, we want to copy libgpuPeteMesaGL.so.1.0.75

42: Switch back to the epxse window, and go for the folder labled plugins.

If the epsxe window is still focused on /epsxe/cfg just use the up arrow to get back to the /epsxe folder

43: Once /epsxe/plugins has been opened, paste. Don't forget to delete the file that says remove.me

44: Go back to the /downloads folder and click on gpupetexgl206.tar.gz

If you are still in the gpupetemesagl175.tar.gz tar file, just hit the up arrow to return to the /downloads folder.

45: Again there are 5 files.  We need to only pay attention to three of them.

Select cfgPeteXGL2 and gpuPeteXGL2.cfg and copy

46: Go back to the /epsxe folder and open the cfg folder back up

47: Once inside /epsxe/cfg hit paste

48: There should now be 4 files inside /epsxe/cfg.  Those files should be cfgPeteXGL2, gpuPeteXGL2.cfg, cfgPeteMesaGL, and gpuPeteMesaGL.cfg

49: Go back to the /downloads folder which should still have the .tar file open.

This time select and copy the file labeled libgpuPeteXGL2.so.2.0.6

50: Once the file is selected, return to the /epsxe folder and open up plugins.

51: Once /epsxe/plugins is open, paste the file in.

52: There is one more task that needs to be accomplished, so return to the downloads folder one more time.  This time open the file labeled spupeopsoss109.tar.gz

53: This time the two cfg files, cfgPeopsOSS and spuPeopsOSS.cfg are split apart

54: Just drag one of the files close to the other, highlight both files, and copy.

55: Switch Konqueror windows back to the /epsxe window and open the cfg folder.

56: Paste the files in.

57: 6 files should now be loaded into the cfg folder.  Button it up, this should be the last that this screen is seen.

58: Go back to the downloads folder one more time.  the spupeopsoss109.tar.gz file should still be open, so select the file labeled libspuPeopsOSS.so.1.0.9 and copy

59: Return to the /epsxe folder and open plugins again.

60: Once plugins is open, simply paste the final file in.

61: There should now be 3 plugin files.

62: Go up a folder to return to /epsxe

63: Due to some problems that occurred when running epsxe, opening the program will take something of a different path.  This time, go to the k menu and open Konsole.

Konsole is currently in Most Used Applications.  If it is not here, it should be under System.

64: Once Konsole is open, type dir

65: Running the directory  command insures that the file or folder we are looking for is there.

Type cd epsxe

66: The folder line should change and read (username)@1[epxse]$ now.  Type dir

Well, that ends Part 2.

Continue on to complete the install.

I think I missed something. Where's Part 1 again?

Nobody gets between me and Final Fantasy. NOBODY!

Special note: This guide was only made possible by the help of Ngemu.  Ngemu currently has a pop-up policy that I do not agree with.  Even though I am grateful for their help and aide in solving the install issue with XGL2, I cannot in good conscience direct others to the Ngemu site by links as long as the current pop-up policy is in place.  However, if readers of this guide wish to visit Ngemu, and it is a very good source of emulation related tools and assistance, simply direct the browser to http://www.ngemu.com

Thanks Ngemu
