| Among ID Software's
works is the popular Wolfenstein set
which has taught gamers a lot. Lessons such as the need to
turn
friendly fire off when using the flame thrower. And who could forget
the lesson that ugly fat German people can raise demons? And
yes,
the lesson that even the most powerful of demons can fall to an MP40. Lessons aside, Return to Castle Wolfenstein works as well on Linux as it does under Windows with one major hickup. In order to complete the Linux install a Valid Working Install of Return to Castle Wolfenstien is required. If you do not have a working windows computer that you can install RTCW on, forget completing this guide. This guide is split into 2 parts, and this is Part 2. Part 1 Part 2 On the last page we had just accepted the agreements to install the ID software. So lets get this install over and done with. 28: ID's installer already has /home/(username)/ in the paths, so just hit Begin Install If the paths are not set to the /home files set Install Path: /home/(username)/wolfenstein Link PathL /home/(username) ![]() 29: When the install completes, hit Exit ![]() 30: Go ahead and close Konsole. ![]() 31: Go to Personal Files and there should be a folder labeled wolfenstein. Go ahead and open it ![]() 32: Now here comes the head wringer. Like other ID Software games, Return to Castle Wolfenstein needs the .pak files from the CD. The problem is, the .pak files are compressed onto the CD. So how does one retrieve the .pak files? ![]() 33: The .pak files that are needed are found in windows. In the folder labeled MAIN This is why a valid Windows install is required. Without these .pak files, Return to Castle Wolfenstein will not run. ID software acknowledges this problem and suggests either installing RtCW in W.I.N.E. first or copying the files over a network. I found a simpler solution. I just used Nero to burn the RtCW Main file to a CD. Since this also gives a file backup solution, it is the one I recommend to complete this install. ![]() 34: At this point, I put the CD containing the Windows Main folder into the CD-rom in MEPIS and opened the CD up. ![]() 35: There we go, the main folder is now inside of Linux. Lets get these files moved over. ![]() 36: There we go, all the .pak files in one place. ![]() 37: Select all the files, but leave the scripts folder alone. ![]() 38: Copy ![]() 39: Go back to the /wolfenstein folder and open the /main folder. ![]() 40: Paste ![]() 41: Visit Overclocked Remix or Gamenikki while waiting. ![]() 42: Once the copy completes, go back up a level to /wolfenstein ![]() 43: At this point things get complicated again. There are 3 script files that can be used to open up Return to Castle Wolfenstein. ![]() 44: The wolf and wolfmp scripts will open up the Multiplayer engine. ![]() 45: Looks like that part works. Go ahead and exit. ![]() 46: The wolfsp file will open up the single player engine. ![]() 47: Looks like that worked too. ![]() 48: Now it is time to create some links. To get Multiplayer onto the desktop, simply drag the wolf file over to the desktop. ![]() 49: Link Here. ![]() 50: Now click on wolfsp and drag it to the desktop. ![]() 51: Link Here ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Happy Fragging. I think I missed a step in Part 1 ![]() |
